01 / Overview

About this manual

This guide covers the Roboticsys iPC400 and iPC402 systems. Their shared motherboard is referred to here as the iPC400-MB. Some board features described in the BIOS or connector references may not be exposed or enabled in every system configuration.

Use the product-specific system information below for chassis dimensions, power, cooling, and expansion limits. If a procedure or setting differs from the hardware or BIOS version in your system, stop and contact RSI support before proceeding.

Introduction and scope

This manual brings together the system installation guide and the technical reference for the shared iPC400-MB platform. It is intended to help engineers and technicians install, configure, and service iPC400/iPC402 systems. The board reference also describes configurations and interfaces that may not be fitted to these systems; system-specific specifications and approved configurations govern use.

Document notices

Product specifications, illustrations, and firmware settings may change without prior notice. Values in the board reference describe the documented board platform and are provided for technical reference. They do not guarantee that an option is fitted, enabled, or supported in every assembled system. Confirm current system details with RSI before ordering components or changing a configuration.

This RSI manual is a system-level adaptation of the supplied reference documents. Board references use the name iPC400-MB; system drawings and procedures apply to the iPC400/iPC402 family. Board-only warranty, conformity, packaging, and accessory information do not establish terms for the assembled system.

The supplied board reference includes a copyright notice and states that commercial copying, translation, or other reproduction requires prior approval from its publisher. This system guide adapts the technical information for iPC400/iPC402 service and support.

Configuration noteProcessor, memory, serial-port modes, storage, operating system, and PCIe card options depend on the system configuration ordered.

Safety, battery, and handling

  • Disconnect the DC power supply before opening the system or installing a component. Use a correctly rated RSI-approved power source.
  • Use an ESD strap and grounded work surface. Keep replacement components in anti-static packaging until installation; hold circuit boards by their edges and do not bend them.
  • Use the correct screws and tools, avoid overtightening, and keep small hardware clear of the board. Disconnect delicate cables by their connector, without pulling on wires or using pliers.
  • Replace the RTC battery only with the same approved type and polarity. Do not recharge, crush, cut, heat, or incinerate the battery. Avoid very high temperatures and very low air pressure, which can cause rupture or leakage. Follow local rules for battery disposal.

RTC battery warnings

  • Incorrect replacement: use only the specified battery type. An incorrect replacement may bypass safety protections, especially with some lithium batteries.
  • Unsafe disposal: do not dispose of a battery in fire or a hot oven, and do not mechanically crush or cut it. These actions can cause an explosion.
  • High temperatures: exposure to very high temperatures can cause an explosion or leakage of flammable liquid or gas.
  • Low air pressure: very low air pressure can cause an explosion or leakage of flammable substances.
Qualified serviceOpening the chassis, removing the heatsink, changing jumpers, and servicing internal board connections should be done by qualified personnel.

iPC400/iPC402 system warranty

RSI provides a three-year warranty for iPC400/iPC402 systems, excluding memory and storage.

Board conformity reference

The board guide lists CE and FCC Class B conformity. Its datasheet also lists RoHS and UKCA. These board references do not replace the compliance labeling and records supplied for the assembled iPC400/iPC402.

Board package contents and optional accessories

The supplied manual and datasheet contain separate packing lists, both shown in the board reference table below. The datasheet includes an additional backplate. Optional accessories are listed separately. These are bare-board references, not a statement of the assembled iPC400/iPC402 carton contents.

05 / Installation & service

Internal component service

Power down and protect against ESDShut down the operating system, disconnect the DC power supply, and use an ESD grounding strap and anti-static work surface before opening the chassis. Handle circuit boards by their edges.

Appendix: ESD and handling precautions

Before removing the heatsink or handling internal components:

  • Disconnect power before installation or service, and use the correct AC input voltage for the power supply.
  • Ground yourself with an ESD strap and anti-static mat. Leave components in anti-static packaging until ready to install.
  • Hold boards by their edges. Avoid touching chips or contacts, and do not bend or flex circuit boards.
  • Use the correct hardware and avoid overtightening. Keep screws and parts organized on a clean, stable work surface.
  • Use adequate lighting and suitable tools: Phillips screwdriver, small precision screwdriver for M.2, ESD grounding strap, and anti-static mat or pad.
  • Disconnect cables by their connectors. Do not pull on wires or use pliers on delicate connectors.

Remove and reinstall the heatsink

Removing the heatsink provides access to memory, M.2 sockets, and the CMOS battery. This procedure exposes internal components and should be performed by qualified personnel.

Additional board reference details

This short list keeps board-only details that are not repeated in the board and system specifications above. Current iPC400/iPC402 configuration details take precedence for the assembled system.

Board referenceDocumented capability and system applicability
Humidity and board managementThe board reference lists 5% to 90% relative humidity at 40°C, non-condensing; a system-reset watchdog programmable from 1 to 255 seconds; and TPM 2.0. A separate reference identifies firmware TPM for Q670E/H610E and discrete TPM for R680E. The assembled-system environmental rating above takes precedence.
Audio controllerRealtek ALC888 high-definition audio controller. The assembled system exposes line-out and microphone input according to configuration.
Board shipping weight referenceThe datasheet lists 0.4 kg net weight and 1.14 kg gross weight for the bare board package. These are not assembled-system weights.
Board operating systemsThe board reference lists Microsoft Windows 10 and Linux. This board-level note does not identify the operating system image installed on a particular iPC400/iPC402.

Board-only package contents and optional accessories

The supplied board reference lists these items for a bare motherboard shipment. This list does not define the contents of an assembled iPC400/iPC402 system carton.

Reference listItems
Board manual packing listOne board; one SATA cable; one SATA power cable; one 1-to-2 serial cable; three M.2 screws; one I/O bracket; configuration-specific audio cable.
2024 datasheet packing listOne board; one SATA cable; one SATA power cable; one 1-to-2 serial cable; three M.2 screws; one I/O bracket; one audio cable; one backplate.
Optional board accessories1-to-1 serial cable; USB 2.0 cable; ATX 2×10-to-1×3 power cable; SATA and SATA power cables; LGA1700 CPU coolers up to 45 W (with or without backplate), 65 W (with or without backplate), or 35 W; 150 W, 12 V lockable DC supply.

Jumper settings

The board reference lists four numbered jumper settings on pages 45–48. Disconnect system power before qualified service, and confirm the selected voltage or mode is appropriate before changing a jumper.

1. Display panel voltage jumper (JP_EDPPWR1)

The board reference shows +3.3 V as the default panel voltage. The eDP/LVDS panel header is not used by the standard chassis display connections. Do not change the jumper or connect a panel without RSI service approval.

System applicability notes

  • The iPC400-MB is a 170 × 170 mm mini-ITX board.
  • External ports are grouped along the system rear I/O: 3 Ethernet, 8 USB 3.2 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports routed by an internal cable, HDMI, DisplayPort, audio, and serial connections according to the ordered configuration.
  • Memory, M.2 sockets, RTC battery, fan headers, SATA connections, and service headers are beneath the system heatsink or inside the chassis.
  • The iPC402 expansion assembly provides PCIe card access. Supported shared-lane configurations are one x16, two x8, two x4, or one x4 plus one x8. Total add-in-card power is limited to 75 W across both cards and card length to 180 mm.
  • The system and board references list an operating range of 0°C to 60°C, storage from −40°C to 85°C, and non-condensing humidity. Use the exact assembled-system rating for the iPC400/iPC402 configuration.
  • The 2024 board reference lists processor-specific graphics capabilities, legacy CPU options, and thin mini-ITX configurations. Those configurations do not define this system; refer to the iPC400/iPC402 system specifications above for applicable CPU, graphics, memory, and I/O limits.
Board-level features are configuration-dependentThe source board reference describes interfaces used across board builds. Some headers, display signals, management connections, power modes, and BIOS options are not wired to the standard iPC400/iPC402 chassis. Use this inventory for identification only. Confirm a connection is present on your system before attaching hardware.
